RadioShack declares bankruptcy

im surprised they lasted this long. i figured when they changed the name to The Shack from Radio Shack that was the end.

It was never Radio Shack where I lived; it was called Tandy (or Tandy's?).

Back in the 80's it was literally the ONLY store in town for buying spare parts and DIY electronics. I loved the place, and I had a great time looking at all the stocked shelves, wondering what I could make with the displayed components. I never made anything useful, but it was a great place to loiter on a Saturday. Sad news indeed. Crying or Very sad

It was called Tandy over seas in the U.K. Radio Shack was the the place for nerds when I was a kid growing up in North Hollywood. I say they did most of the damage to themselves with high prices, Fry's electronics helped as as well in Fry's early days.

Our neighborhood Radio Shack closes at 6 p.m. tonight for the last time. About two hours ago I was there buying what good crap was left. All the Arduino materials were sold out. The total was $20.17. I was pulling out my wallet saying, "I've got a twenty and a five. Hold on a second." The clerk said, "Just give me the twenty. You don't need to break your five."

I handed the clerk a $20 bill. The clerk gave me 17 cents in change.

I gave the change back. "You see? This is why you're going out of business. You don't owe me any change." "Oh, yeah. Thanks."

So long Rat Shack!

The best we've got now is Maplins but I think they're even dearer than Tandy ever was. Luckily I know someone in the trade who can get me pretty much whatever component I need, especially computer parts.

Oh wow, I was wondering if that was the case since I've seen them slowly disappearing all over the place. Was never really too frequent of a shopper at Radio Shack. Looks like they had a pretty good run though for the most part.
