I was suppose to mow my grandmothers yard today but it's raining right now so I'm bored. So.......
What do you think of Pink Floyd? I realize this band is not for everyone but what do you think?
As for me, I think they are one of the five most brilliant rock bands of all time with stunning lyrics and amazing guitar solos from David Gilmour who could be my favorite guitar soloist ever. They have made some of the greatest and most highly praised albums of all-time such as Wish You Were Here, The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon.
Pink Floyd is actually a big part of my life. They seem to expand my mind and bring out the creativeness in me. Sometimes I have these weird images in my head while listening to them. I don't listen to Pink Floyd all the time or even most of the time because I just have too many other bands I like to hear.
If you like Pink Floyd then share your thoughts on them and what albums and songs you like the best. I will start with a great instrumental song that has one of Gilmour's best solos.
Dear Destroyer, you should know that I grew up with Pink Floyd and Dire Straits, two bands that I've always loved!
Now I am 42 years old, I was born in 1970 (oops, usually a woman never reveals her age, but thank God, I keep myself young )and I discovered their wonderful music with a guy, with whom I was at the age of 18 years!
I agree with you, Pink Floyd are great, and I remember listening to their music (guitar solos make me cringe) especially the winter afternoons, it was raining outside, and my mind would relax, wandered and dreamed!
There is no favorite song, or album, I love all of the legendary Pink Floyd!
Thanks for sharing!!!!
I love Pink Floyd,it is still hands down the BEST concert I have been to and I have been blessed to see many. I saw Gilmore when he did the Division Bell tour a million years ago give or take a few years,it was outdoors in Edmonton at their Commonwealth stadium,it was amazing to say the least. I went with 2 high school friends who also love the band,we still talk about it today. The show itself was fantastic, they had semi after semi trailer full of equipment and stage effects etc,it was unforgettable.
the only downside to seeing them live for me is that Roger Waters wasnt there, hes also a genius and its too bad they went their seperate ways,I would have enjoyed seeing them both very much.
fave songs, hard to narrow that down with soooo many good ones, but I am keen to Shine on you Crazy Diamond, which was written about Syd Barret, the first Pink Floyd singer, and I also really like Great Big Gig in the Sky and Us and Them....and of course one I love turning up loud. HEY YOU.
Yeah Hey You is a great song! There's so many of them. I love Young Lust, Time, Money, Mother, Welcome To the Machine, Wish You Were Here, See Emily Play and others that I might mention later.
Pink Floyd has got to be one of the very few rock bands that were perfectly fine without their original lead singer. It didn't hurt the band one bit. They actually got better. Syd was great but I prefer the Waters and Gilmour songs myself. These days I think the band that is closest to being like Pink Floyd is Radiohead. What do you think? _________________ https://www.facebook.com/groups/moviesnshows/?ref=bookmarks
good call on Wish you were Here,an awesome song, one of the first songs I learned on the guitar. Mother imo is one of their flagship songs,an absolutely historic great tune.
interesting comment about Radiohead! a fantastic band, that dude can put tears in the eyes of the strongest man.
I only have 2 Radiohead albums ,I enjoy them both a lot.The song ,Fake Plastic Trees is a 5 star tune I think for example ,but I dont know that band well enough to agree or disagree with anything else but the fact that I like the band.

Funny thing happened a couple of weeks back. I was doing a little channel surfing and found this live Pink Floyd concert. They were playing a lot of their hits like Money, Dark Side etc. I thought this is awesome. Then a pause came and before they went to commercial this band advertised some of their CDs for sale. It was a tribute band called The Australian Pink Floyd. I gotta say they had me fooled.
Kind of a nice alternative for the younger folk (or any one for that matter) to get exposed to some live Floyd if they ever get the chance to see these guys perform. I will include a link to their site where you can listen to some of their live performances. Just listen to the music to see if you can tell the difference.
