This is just a US thing. I don't think they do it else were its our way on keeping tabs on each other "for big brother purposes".
I shredded mine in the shredding machine today.

We have a Census in Canada, but I couldn't really guess how often it's done. Miss Priss filled out the last one. I couldn't care less really if it's done or not.

| Yeah I filled out the census a few years ago I think. They don't do it every year. We luckly got the short version. Some people get a longer more detailed version and others will get phone calls once a month to update their census for a period of a year after they fill out their forms. It is a pain in the rear. Here in Canada, you have to fill out the census. If you don't, there are penalties. I think the penalty is just a fine but I really can't remember. |

Census is a way to tell the government how things are. recording information on population how much one makes are you legal and so one. to me its none of their business that what my social security # does. why provide more info to them. |

I agree with that Lonny - i mean why tell them everything they want to know when it could come back to haunt you!
We had one of these over here a few years back but i didn't give very good answers on purpose!

Hmm so why do people do it? I mean, I guess it can protect people in some level.
We have discussions of something similar here in Israel that the government wants to develop. The Biometry something. Something to do with fingerprints which will be mandatory if executed. |

people do it cause their told it would better schools, better understand the population of cities the % of race, reform our prison system and school, somehow the health care is being used in this years Census the was mentioned not by one news source but by 4. People are also told they can face jail time is its not filled out or filled correctly so they do it out of fear.
The Census is the US main tool for data collection on everyone in the states.
By no means am I a Right winger as most would say, but I do draw the line when I feel my rights are infringed upon. I don't vote, i don't go to jury duty, im not allowed to own a gun. The I R S already takes money from me for 3 years of back taxes cause I refused to pay. What else can they do send me back to prison. oh no. |
