Which decade did you grow up in? (ie, childhood, teenage years) What did you like about that decade? Dislike? Would you rather have grown up in a different decade?
I was born in 1981 so my childhood was the 80's, then my teenage years were the 90s. I loved the 80's cartoons and most of the 80's music. The 90's were okay but I think things went downhill from there. |

I spent my first 5 years in the 80's and really don't remember any of it lol. I mostly grew up in the 90's and have a lot of great memories and then I finished growing up last decade. I was about 15 in the year 2000 so I still had a few more years of growing up but the 90's is the decade that I grew up in.
I do sometimes wish that I could have lived through my teen years in the 70's because of how things were back then and the great rock music coming out. Also the movie Dazed and Confused is a great look at teen kids in the 70's and stuff they would do. I love that movie. |

Yes!!! I would have loved to have been around in the 70's for this very reason. Also, "That 70's Show" makes it look like a lot of fun |

I'm a Generation X'er. My childhood was spent in the 70's and my teen years in the 80's. The greatest decade was the 80's. _________________ -2nd Person to Join

I was 7 in '85, so I remember the late eighties - Billy Joel sticks in the back of my head for that decade. Even though I grew up overall in the 90's, I feel more like an 80's kid, because looking back now, the 80's were more like me in my childhood. _________________

The 90's were horrible. Probably one of the reasons why I have few good memories of my teenage years. I was born in '82, and everything I can remember about those first 7 years was much better than anything in the 90's. _________________ The TGQ is the most fun section of the forums. Life in the '70s
What was going on in our country and the world during the 1970's?
Facts about the 1970's:
Population of the U.S.: 203.3 million
Number of households with TV sets: 58.5 million
Average hourly wage: $3.23
One dozen eggs: 61 cents
One quart of milk: 33 cents
One loaf of bread: 24 cents
One pound of butter: 87 cents
One dozen oranges: 86 cents
What was happening in the 1970's?
There were walkouts all over the country: police, teachers, doctors, and sanitation workers, to name a few.
A gas shortage and price hike caused long lines at gas stations.
The Vietnam War continued until a cease-fire was signed in January 1973.
War and unrest also raged in Israel, Chile, Lebanon, Guyana, Nicaragua, and Iran.
Inmates and police clashed during a prison revolt in Attica, New York in 1971. Thirty-nine people were killed.
President Nixon visited the communist countries of Red China and the Soviet Union in a gesture of peace.
The "Watergate" scandal rocked the nation, and President Nixon resigned.
Louise Brown, the world's first test-tube baby, was born in 1978.
Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak built the first Apple computer in 1976.
Athletes such as Bruce Jenner and Nadia Comaneci won gold medals in the 1976 Olympics.
Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's record in 1974 with 715 home runs.
In football, O.J. Simpson broke Jim Brown's single-season rushing record with 2003 yards in 1973.
We lost musical legends Elvis Presley (age 42) and Bing Crosby (age 72) in 1977.
Slangs like "right on", "whats happening", "sit on it", whats up dude", "cool", "keep on truckin", "freaks", "pardy hardy", "nerds" just to name a few....
Concerts was like $8.95 a ticket....thats a little bit of what the 70's was like when I was growing up... |
