The Avengers shatters its lofty expectations this weekend!!!

We always knew Marvel's The Avengers would have HUGE expectations given its ensemble cast and sheer number of superheroes but it managed to shatter even THOSE expectations!

Disney reported a weekend estimate of over $200 million!

How big is this? The previous opening weekend record was held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 with $169.2 million. If this estimate holds true, then The Avengers has beaten it by over $30 million!

It is also the FASTEST film to rise to the $200 million mark and its Saturday gross is the HIGHEST Saturday gross of all time!

Its future is also particularly bright as it has received hundreds of positive reviews and a whopping 94% of those reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are POSITIVE!

It completely overshadowed the remaining movies at the box office as no new movies dared open this weekend because the studios knew The Avengers was opening!

I haven't seen it yet, but that's just because I wanted to avoid the hordes of people.

You got your Iron Man nerds, your Hulk nerds, your Captain America nerds, even the small minority that makes up the group of Thor nerds all packed into one theater along with all of your average movie-goers. Just multiply any one of those superhero movies by 4 and it shouldn't be a surprise that it was this big.

When I refer to people as "nerds" in this case, I don't mean it at all offensively.

Take that hairy pothead, havent see it yet will wait till it hits netflix and watch it from home.

Heard it was big in the UK on it D Box theaters or something along those lines.

I watched it last night with some friends in a mostly empty theater.
Crowds are easily avoidable, just go to a late showing.

It was pretty good, I'd recommend it.
There were a few references that you'll only get if you saw the previous movies about the respective characters though.

I'm not usually one for superhero movies, but this one was actually pretty good.

I'm an Iron Man guy myself, so the ending was quite satisfying.

Marvel's The Avengers followed up its record-breaking debut with a record-breaking second weekend at the box office!

It's estimated to have earned well over $100 million in its second weekend! This will not just break but SMASH Avatar's second weekend gross record because it only earned a paltry $75.6 million in its second weekend!

It will earn an estimated $1 billion around the world by the end of the weekend according to Disney!

Comic book movies are normally big budget box office smashes. That is why the studios are williing to spend so much money to get big name stars, young up and comers, and all of the digital animation. That all comes toa big bill before the movie grosses even one dime. I like em, I also like the live action movies that they have made of cartoons from my childhood like transformers.

For both lifetime domestic and worldwide grosses records, The Avengers now sits in 3rd place behind only Avatar and Titanic!

In terms of domestic grosses adjusted for ticket price inflation, The Avengers is now 30th right behind The Jungle Book.
