I got the Kindle Fire not to long ago for $110.00 used from a friend of mine because he got an IPad 2. It is great for everything and is pretty fast at browsing the web. I mostly watch movies and read emails/ surf the net with it more than read books though. I do wanna get all the Harry Potter books on it soon though. Kindles are awesome is all I can say. |

I decided to move this topic to computing because this is the Amazon Kindle which is an e-reader rather than an actual book or publication. _________________

I was thinking about buying the kindle fire 2 days ago.
Amazon had it on sale for only $130 for a refurbished one.. but in perfect condition.
Too bad I couldn't get the money together for it |

I prefer having a tablet with the Kindle app installed. That way you get to read books, surf the web and play games. |

Personally I prefer to actually read a book. Our front room has books covering one entire wall. There's a huge amount of reference books from way before the invention of google but they help to insulate walls and deaden sound from noisy neighbours. |

Love my kindle.
Gave up my Kindle to a family member and got a Fire 6.
Was a bit worrisome on spending 400 on a high end tablet that I may not have liked and went for the 100.00 model instead.
Well I love it, perfect for that alone time while sitting on the crown. _________________ Don't Google it, Just Bing IT!

I know what it is, but I don't use it...I have an app on my Iphone, so I can read books , on my laptop I have a program in which I can read books but also comics, I hardly use that too...
actually I read almost no books...
In earlier days I have read a whole lot of books....but, like I said before , nowadays almost nothing... |

Looks like Amazon stepped up it's game and unleashed the
Fire TV Stick
What does this have to do with the kindle?
This is a big step for them if they convert it over to work on hand held devices and take advantage of the growing population of Mobil. Then it will be a game changer in this market.
Not to mention the number of books, movies and games you have access to if your have a Prime membership account.
Just pop in the stick and your good to go ,, all this without downloading a APP _________________ Don't Google it, Just Bing IT!

i dont see books going anywhere , well at least for another 100 years or so. by then who knows what we will be looking at.
maybe 3D hologram imaging for reading, surfing, movies and so on will be the norm...
i know what you are saying when Barn & Nobel s starting closing up shops a few years back and said the drop in sales was due to places like amazon and other that are forcing the closure of those brick and mortar type stores.
the term Adapt or Die rings so true in today's world. _________________ Don't Google it, Just Bing IT!

I like reading a book that you can hold rather than glancing at it on a Kindle. It just feels more traditional to feel the pages rather than the metallic feel from the device. |

Kindles and tablets do have their uses as book readers. When I left my home country several years ago, I left many books behind to save time, space and money during the move. Now that I own a tablet, I can find many of my old books online, and I simply read them while sitting on the couch. I was very happy to find some of my favourite H.G. Wells short stories the other day. The tablet makes a great interim reader until I can be bothered to order some old stock copies of paperbacks from Amazon or wherever. |
