I found this hilarious!

WELLINGTON - New Zealand students have put their school on the map by etching giant phallic symbols onto its playing fields with weedkiller, in a prank immortalised on Internet satellite service Google Earth.

While the stunt took place more than two years ago, its effects coincided with satellites taking photographs of Hamilton for Google Earth, meaning web users cop an eyeful whenever they view Fairfield College.

Local resident David McQuoid told the Waikato Times he was online searching for a property when he came across the crude etchings, some of which measure almost 15 metres (50 feet) long.

"At first I thought it was a large piece of art work," he told the newspaper.

The school's acting principal Gerhard van Dyk was less convinced of the symbols' artistic merit, telling the Times he had been unable to catch the pranksters, who burned the phalluses into the grass on a weekend in May 2009.

By the time he arrived at the school the next Monday, the grass was already dying and giant penises were emerging all over the property.

A total of six became apparent in subsequent days, as school authorities scrambled to cover them up.

"There's not really much we could do about it," he said. "The caretaker took some more weedkiller and tried to camouflage it a bit."

Van Dyk said he would contact Google about removing the etchings but the Internet giant told the Times that they could not be blurred, as Google Earth images came directly from satellites, unlike those used for Google Street View.

Online reaction to the stunt on Fairfax Media's stuff.co.nz website was mostly positive, with one reader commenting: "A funny harmless prank, much better than the kids robbing houses or burning down buildings."

However, there was some outrage, including a reader who posted: "This is not funny, what a sick sense of humour you people have . . . This shows the twisted minds of today's youth."

I laughed my ass off when I read this article! It reminded me of a stunt that was pulled by some guys in my school When I was in highschool we had a teacher who would yell, swear and throw things in class from time to time. Everyone hated Mr. Faulkner. His house was about a block away from the school. It sat right on the corner and the front yard had a short hill on both sides facing the street. During one election campaign a few of the students got together and made a stencil about 8 feet high. It read NDP (New Democratic Party). This particular hated the NDP intensely! Anyway, the students went to his house late at night and placed the stencil on the hills. They generously sprinkled the stencil with fertilizer. About a week later NDP was bright green on this guys lawn! They never did find out who did it, but it was sure funny!

That's hilarious. I can't believe anyone would be outraged by that. They didn't damage anything, the grass will grow back! Just because some kids pull a prank like this means all of today's youth have sick minds? lol!!!!!!!!

Come on now, I'm sure similar pranks were being pulled 20 or 30 or even 40 years ago.

a bit lewd...

but the child in me smirked a little *chuckles*

it's almost more disturbing that the google satellites that pick up the images can't be cancelled! the potential for long lasting pranks are endless ^.^

Kids come up with all kinds of pranks. As we move more into the technocratic era we will see more of these kinds of pranks and low humor aimed at showing the internet world how clever they are. Cool

Low humor? I thought it was friggin' hilarious! People need to be reminded not to take life so seriously. As people grow older we forget how to have fun and look at the world with innocence. I love it when I see people pull stuff like this. It reminds me of when I was a kid.

I feel sorry for people who don't have a sense of humor. It's not childish to laugh at stuff like this, those people just have a sense of humor and don't take things so seriously. South Park completely changed my life and made me not take things in life so seriously.

I worked in a turkey factory and my supervisor had 1 arm. He would make jokes about it. Life is too short to be bitter or take everything seriously. Laughter is great medicine for your mind. I say make a joke out of anything. Life is hard enough, make fun of it sometimes, laugh at yourself. Who the hell cares!

I am basically making fun of myself using this signature I have. It's the only game that I'm the best at so I go overboard and make a ridiculous banner signature about it.

This gives me a great idea for a big open grass area close to my house.
