I have finally bought my first sound system in over 10 years!
Marquant BoomBox
I have been putting up with using my PC's CD drive all this time, which is annoying because my pc speakers aren't great and neither do I like having my pc in the living room.
I think BoomBoxes are better than HiFi systems 'cos you can put them anywhere without needing to pre-design a place for them to live.
The speakers on this thing are awesome.
Playable formats CD: MP3, CD, CD-R, CD-RW + Tape + Radio

Well it arrived today and - I am overwhelmingly disappointed.
The whole product is clever marketing deception.
Not only was it as light as a feather, with no feel of any "construction" - but my PC speakers actually still are better than these.
Bullshit.

Unlikely - there's no fault, and the packaging/postage required to do that is way too much hassle and cost.
Guess what? I thought, "I know, I'll switch on the bass boost to see if that makes any difference", right, but discovered as soon as I pressed the button, I was in fact switching it OFF.
Maybe I should get a Hi-Fi system after all. Gonna have to wait it out again though, until I can push myself to fork out yet more money.
I don't do that very often.

HMm... I'll tell you what - it's not actually the worst thing on earth.
You see the first CD I tried in it was a brand new B B King - and you'd expect that to sound awesome, with bass etc - it's a new CD so wasn't expecting anything to be wrong with it.
However, it's now playing my brand new Toots Thielmens CD - and it sounds very full, with good volume. Crystal sound in fact.
Granted the bass and volume could be better, and so it still is an exageration of a product, but I think my B B King CD was in some kind of format that gave less output to the speakers.
My Toots Thielmens sounds quite nice.
Still a bit disappointed since it isn't what I expected, bass-wise and so forth, but at least it'll do for a good while. |

Good tip there nitestalker.
The only thing I don't like about that kind of stuff is they don't look as nice - all "components" wired and put together. |

make a good backplate out of wood and attach all components to it , you can run all wires through small openings in the wood and make it look professional _________________ Until you can be Boss of the month 13 times str8 : SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP!!! |

That sucks that your stereo isn't what you thought it would be. I have bought things before that turned out to not be as good as it sounded or looked.
Here is my stereo that I have had for about 6 years, it's 400 watts, not the loudest one but it sounds REALLY good. It seems pretty tough too because one time my window was leaking and it was pouring down rain and the back of my stereo got all wet inside and I thought it was ruined but never skipped a beat and still works fine.
