Any body seen this? Life Of Pi has to be one of my all time favourite films.
Here's a small intro...
Life of Pi is a 2012 movie adaptation of the novel by Yann Martel. It portrays the life of a 16 year old Indian boy named Piscine Molitor "Pi" Patel.
In a nutshell Pi spends his early life exploring religion and learning the benefits of different philosophies. But it doesn't end there. Pi's parents are the proud owners of a wild animal zoo and decide to move the entire business abroad to Canada.
Pi contemplates the lives of the animals his parents keep and what true thoughts and identities they may harbour. Can one as primitive as a goat, for example, ever identify in any way, with the expressions and gestures of a human?
Pi is soon to find out, all be it much to an unwelcome surprise, how if at all, humans and animals may relate to one another... and perhaps in some way, learn to live along side each other.
In fact, Pi's adventure does not just lead to a closer understanding of animals... but inevitably his journey brings him to an ultimately close encounter with the spirit of existence... and with God.

I watched this a few weeks back with my partner.
Better than I expected, but on the cover of the DVD the review reads ...
The next Avatar.
Good movie with a great twist ending, but Avatar is 10 times superior IMO.
I won't spoil anything, but the ending has a great twist which will really make you think, about the movie, and about yourself
On a side note, The next Avatar will be Avatar 2!
And I cannot wait. |

What a retarded thing to put on the cover. It's nothing like Avatar. It's a completely unrelated niche with so little in common that comparing it to a science-fiction epic is completely pointless.
If you want to compare it to science fiction then yes I would agree Avatar is sooooo much better.
Hahahaha.
But no. One of the best movies ever made. _________________

Heh Tenchi.
Well there are many parallels drawn in the film.
At the end the reporters don't believe his story so Pi offers them an alternative story.
The alternative story is basically the same, only whereby all the animals represent different members of his family or friends - Pi is the tiger.
The point at the end of the day, is that neither of these stories can be proved. The metaphorical message here being, that the existence of God similarly cannot be proven outright.
You have to decide for yourself if you feel any calling to truth from truth.
So giving them the choice of which story to believe in turn prompts them to ask themselves, which was more profound, which was more poetic... which one called to their hearts the most?
Indeed one story sounded absurd and the other much more sensible. But that is not to say one is any less true than the other.
It is their heart which must decide. If they felt one story to be more true than the other then there may be a reason more divine than that of mere intuition.
Do you believe what your heart tells you, or what the common people would be more accustomed to accept?
In any case I guess the film is very deep. But that's one explanation. _________________

I agree.
I also think they are have quiet a cheek too, Avatar is by far my favourite movie of all time, but cannot compare these two movies in any way.
Just a marketing ploy IMO, Avatar is the highest grossing film, so simply by putting the name on the cover will generate interest, by putting ''The next Avatar'' people will buy / rent it, but are lead to believe it is something it is not.
............
I have only seen it once, but after watching it I think it really is a movie to watch at least twice, after knowing the ending, but perceiving the events in the movie whatever way you wish to see it.
So I will watch it again.
It is a very enjoyable movie, but it did need that twist at the end to really become great.

I've heard of it before, however, I never really got around to see it. It does sound like a VERY interesting movie though so when I'm not busy I'll give it a whirl. Speaking of which, I watched the trailer and it looks really tear-jerking and overall amazing. I also see it got quite good reviews! |

The mere concept alone of being stranded on a lifeboat in the middle of the ocean with an adult Bengal tiger speaks mountains.
That was the main aspect that pulled me to watch. _________________
